Welcome to the Changemakers Initiative:
Inspiring Approaches to First Nations, Métis and Inuit Learning
Ashoka Changemakers celebrates ideas and projects that make a difference. We invite you to share your ideas or projects that support First Nations, Métis and Inuit learners to succeed.
Maybe you have a dream about wilderness skills training, or you have come up with a new approach to early childhood learning; perhaps you have designed a distance mentoring program, or have a new way to bring music to your school, or have developed an approach to career and workplace training tailored for Aboriginal Peoples. As long as your focus is on learning, inside or beyond the classroom, we want to hear about it!
By entering your idea or project in the online Changemakers contest, you may win awards ranging from $500 to $5,000.
All of the entries will be posted online, so that everyone can learn about the great ideas you have.
We welcome entries that are specific to First Nations, Métis or Inuit Peoples, or are applicable to all three Aboriginal cultural groups. We also welcome entries that are not specifically Aboriginal in focus but can demonstrate their applicability to Aboriginal Peoples. Entries can come from individuals, groups or organizations from Canada and around the world. We have people available to help if you have any questions about completing the entry form. Get your entry in early, and you may win extra awards.
Some ideas or projects may be based on First Nations, Métis or Inuit culture or teachings. Please respect cultural and community protocols by getting permission to share cultural teachings or practices that may be owned by other people, communities or cultural groups.
Entries must be received by January 27, 2012, so read the Awards Criteria and Guidelines and then get started on your entry form. Award winners will be announced in March 2012, and may be invited to a sharing and celebration Summit to be held in the spring of 2012.
Everyone is a Changemaker when we share and support good ideas for creating positive change – so enter now!
Note: Entries will remain visible on the Changemakers online site so that others can learn from and be inspired by your ideas or projects. Ownership of the idea or project remains solely with the entrant. Please respect Aboriginal knowledge and culture. Contact the entrant directly, or through Changemakers if you see a great idea or project on the website that you would like permission to use.
